"Jenny Bornman is known as Ma Bornman in a small deep rural area in the Free State.

I started as a auxiliary nurse which moved from Potchefstroom to Hertzogville and at that stage I was unemployed. She helped me to have a dream in life. She supported me in a lot of trainings such as HIV STI training through Nacosa. She guided me to be a good Team leader that could take lead when Mrs Bornman was away on business. Mrs Bornman also taught me how to do fundraising to approve Lesedi Hospice which was a NPO. I was the Quality Assurance Team leader as well as the Financial Administration Assistant and Auxiliary Nurse under the supervision of Mrs Bornman. Mrs Bornman also looked after my wellness and assisted me in all the ways she could. She is a real Florence Nightingale and will always go the extra way for her workers.

She got funding to help me to do accredited training. She also helped me and my family with medication or any other health problems. She was strict and taught me the importance of self discipline and to take responsibility for my own life. After 4 years at Lesedi Hospice I left with all the knowledge that Mrs Bornman taught me.

I am grateful for the mentor and tutor that was part of my life. With all the experience within Lesedi Hospice. I went through personal crises which was also addressed with empathy.

She helped met to improve the quality of my life. She also taught me to persevere I am grateful for everything she has done for me.

She has a clear understanding and passion to help anybody with health problems or any other problems. She also empowered me to take control of my life and go forward."

"My older sister started showing the symptoms of severe paranoid schizophrenia in her late teenage years. From her early adolescence until her early 60’s, my sister was not employed and lived with and was cared for by our mother. She isolated herself completely from society (as well as from most of her family).

When mom passed away, my sister found shelter at the Palmietpan Care Centre. Here, in a safe and caring environment, my sister spent her final decade before passing on. The support of the staff at Palmietpan, from caretakers and cleaners to the farmhands, allowed my sister to establish a sort of “independence” that the family had never thought possible.

The tolerance towards and acceptance of her neurological condition allowed my sister to volunteer for small tasks, such as joining in to bring home the sheep in the afternoons or to alight from a car to collect the post for the farm. My older sister, although still very introverted and reserved, became a well-loved (though still very flitty) member of the Hertzogville society.

The phenomenal change in my sister’s behavior was all thanks to the love, care, and acceptance of her unique personality that she experience at Palmietpan. It was here that my sister could finally be herself. Thank You Jenny"

"Aunty Jenny cares for my mother and ensures that my mother is provided with all her needs. She does not hesitate to take my mother to the hospital to have blood tests done. She saw my mother was ill and immediately took her for covid tests which were positive.

She immediately put my mother on the right medications and cares which helped her with a speedy recovery. She even supports me when I come and visit my mother. I was ill and she also provided me with medication. I really appreciate her passion to help people."

"Jenny Borman is known to me for the past 13 years. During this time my family and I made use of het services regarding medical advice, be it advice, getting medicine, or referral to a specialist or a doctor. Jenny never hesitated to pick up het phone to make an appointment for any of my family members and myself.

She is well known to a lot of specialists in Bloemfontein. No effort is too much for her. She does not care whether you have money. Her major concern is mostly the wellbeing of the patient. Jenny has helped us a lot in the past. I am sure she will do this life calling as long as she lives. She also helped us by insisting that my husband's prostate should be examined. During the examination, it was established that my husband had prostate cancer in the early stages. We believe it is curable and treatable.

"I was very ill and I live in a village where there is no medical doctor.

My hands an feet were very swollen. I could not breathe properly. Ma Bornman examined me and took my bloodpressure and said I must go to the nearest government hospital. I refused and said if she cannot heal me I can die.

She gave me heart medication, highbood medication, medication to bring the water down in my body antibiotics for a bladder infection. She also gave me medication to put the salt back in my body.

She told me that it was my responsibility if anything happened to me and if I did not get better I must go to hospital. She said she wanted to see me the next morning. The next morning I felt better and she cared for by seeing me daily. I got completely better. And went on the chronic medication again.

She has helped many people that are very sick in our community."

"I am 68 years. I suffer from severe back pain. I live where there is no doctor. Ma Bornman is the only person to help me with my severe back pain. She has been helping me for 12 years. She is better than the doctor with my back pain. She understands back pain."

"I live in a rural area and travel very far to Jenny. I have been very sick for several times where Jenny saved my life.

Once I was so sick that I was busy dying. Jenny admitted me in her guesthouse. She left by me at night and put me on a drip with medication. She gave me the right medication and I got better.

I am very grateful. She also got me to a lung specialist to check my lungs. He said that Jenny put me on the right medication. I suffer from emphysema Jenny also helped me to stop smoking. She educated me on what smoking does to my body.

"Jenny has been supporting me I am a Primary care giver. I cared for my father until he died from Parkinsons Disease she advised me and said I must take him to hospital.She helped me with my mother whom was very ill. The doctors took her off her mental medication.

She recommended that my mother put her back on the right mental medication. She phoned Mt mother's specialis whom prescribed her on the right medication which improved her quality of life. She has been improving since her medication has been rectified.

I am grateful for her support. She also helps me with my husband whom has a rare disease and needs medication. She also walks the extra mile to improve the quality of the patients life and the Primay Caregivers life."

"I live in a rural village and we have no medical doctor. I lost a lot of weight and my heart was beating very fast. Ma Bornman diagnosed me with HIV/AIDS She tested my blood and I was having a very fast heart beat. She saw I was very anemic. And put me on chronic Iron tablets, antibiotics and referred me to the clinic for ARV medication.

"I am very grateful Jenny examined my mother whom had severe discomfort on her stomach. Jenny listened to all my mothers complaints.

When Jenny examined my mother she felt a mass in her abdomen. She diagnosed my mother saying that she think my mother has pancreas cancer but needs to go to a specialist. The specialist did tests and did a scan. He said Jenny is right she does have Pancreas cancer.

For a professional nurse in a deep rural area with no Doctor she is a great help in our community."
